Barry M Spring 2014 Gelly Hi-Shine Swatches

Hello 🙂

I have some more Barry M for you today, the Gelly Hi-shine Spring 2014 collection. There’s only 3 in this one and it includes Sugar Apple, Huckleberry and Rosehip. They’re stunning pastel colours and I wont just be using these for spring! I picked up Huckleberry and Sugar Apple when they came out but only recently purchased  Rosehip, as I’ve said before I’m not a massive pink fan so I was hesitant in buying this one, but I couldn’t have a polish missing from the collection! . The photos all show 3 coats with no topcoat.

Barry M Spring 2014 Gelly Hi-shine

First up is Sugar Apple, a soft mint/turquoise colour. I applied 3 coats of this, although it COULD get away with 2 if it weren’t for close-up photography. It applies well and dries fairly quickly like most Barry M polishes.Barry M Sugar Apple Barry M Sugar Apple Barry M Sugar Apple

Huckleberry is up next, it’s a lush very pale sky blue colour. I LOVE this one and I think it’s my favourite out of the trio. I would say this one definitely needs 3 coats, as it’s still a little patchy after 2, it could do with a little more pigmentation, but again it applies well and dries pretty quickly if you don’t apply the coats too thickly.Barry M Huckleberry Barry M Huckleberry Barry M Huckleberry

Rosehip, a very pale pink, again needs 3 coats. This one doesn’t apply as well and isn’t as pigmented as most Barry M polishes but it still a nice colour so if you think it’s worth the wait of 3 coats go ahead! 🙂 Barry M Rosehip Barry M Rosehip Barry M RosehipEven though they’re meant to be spring colours, I can see myself wearing these throughout the year. They’re so pretty! The one thing I’m a little disappointed in they’re slightly less pigmented than most Barry M’s but it’s doable – they only need 3 coats and for £3.99 each who can argue!

You can purchase these at Barry M online, Boots and Superdrug.

I’ll be uploading the swatches and comparisons for 4/6 of the Summer 2014 Barry M Gellies within the next few days so stayed tuned for that!

Thanks for visiting!

Nail of the Day using Barry M Rose Hip and Magenta Glitter!

Hello 🙂

Today I’ve done a simple but girly mani. It’s girly because I don’t usually wear pink but I recently picked up Rose Hip from Barry M’s spring Gelly collection and thought I would try it out! I used Barry M’s Magenta glitter to create the stripes! I applied 3 coats of Rose Hip and waited for it to completely dry, applied a top coat and once this had dried placed the striping tape where I wanted it and popped on 2 quick coats of Magenta in between the lines and removed the tape while it was still wet. Luckily the glitter polishes dry pretty quickly so it didn’t take hours for the 2 wet coats of polish to dry.  Once it was dry I applied my favourite top coat, HK Girl Fast Drying & Super Shiny Clear Top Coat by Glisten & Glow, to smooth it all out.

What do you think of the finished look? I actually quite like it considering it feels super girly to me!

I’ll be posting swatches and the review of the Barry M Spring Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint on the weekend so stay tuned for that 🙂

Thanks for visiting and stick around! 🙂

Barry M Arabian from the Aquarium Collection Swatch and Review!

Hello 🙂

I believe the Aquarium Collection was realised by Barry M back in March? However, at this time I was broke and could barely afford food let alone nail polish, so I sadly had to let these pass 😦 But with my last little Barry M haul I decided to pick up Arabian.  I got these bottle shots from the Barry M website.

Barry M Aquarium Collection

The next set of photos are my own. As you can tell from the bottle Arabian is beautiful duochrome polish with a shift from an olive-y green/turquoise to a rich blue! I, personally, don’t normally like metallic nail polishes but I just fell in love with this one. It applies well in 2 thin coats and I didn’t really find that it left brush strokes like most metallic polishes, but I obviously can’t say that for the others in this collection as I haven’t owned them. One thing I will say, don’t expect the polish to look like it does in the bottle on your actual nails. I was a little disappointed that the blue side of the duochrome isn’t as obvious on my nails as in the bottle. But don’t get me wrong, I still think its gorgeous. The colour shift is pretty hard to capture in photos, so I hope I’ve done it justice. Please excuse the awkward hand poses and camera angles, I was trying to capture Arabian perfectly for you! Photos show 2 coats with NO topcoat. Pretty shiny huh?

So what do you think?

You can purchase this collection from Barry M from Boots, Superdrug (who currently have 3 for 2!) or their own website.

Come back again soon! Next week I’ll be reviewing a selection of the new Barry M Summer Hi-shine Gelly nail paints AND my very first O.P.I nail polishes – the complete Summer 2014 Neon collection!

Thanks for visiting 🙂

Barry M Summer Matte Nail Paints swatches and review!

Hello! Today I have swatches and the review for the new Barry M Matte Summer Shades! Aren’t they fab?

Barry M Summer Matte

I have to say I only originally order 4/6 of these colours, but I ended up getting them all! I managed to grab them online at Boots before the official release date! Yay! They’ll be available in Boots stores on June 11th and Superdrug June 4th for £3.99 each.

So here are my swatches and the review! I tried to get a true colour representation in all the photos but this is more difficult than I first thought. Photos all show 2 coats of polish, in order of: bottle shot, without topcoat, with topcoat.

First up is Rhossili which is a fantastic fuchsia purple! It’s highly pigmented and was almost a one-coater, you could probably get away with it if you’re not planning on taking close-ups. Goes on smoothly and the formula is great.

Next we have Waikiki which is an unusual colour and wasn’t in my first batch that I purchased. I decided to go ahead and buy it anyway and was so glad I did. I actually like this colour, it’s a yellowy-green colour but, as you can see from the photos, it’s a little less pigmented than the others and could probably do with 3 coats as it’s still a little patchy. Great colour though, it’s different!

Copacabana is a gorgeous pinky toned red that is opaque in one coat basically. Not sure if this one suits me either! Looks great glossy though.

Cancun is a vivid teal that leans towards green. It was quite a difficult colour to capture on camera but I hope I’ve done it justice! It’s again a highly pigmented polish, a little less so than Rhossili but is prefect in 2 coats. There’s not much to say about this as it has great application and is one of my favourite colours.

Cancun Turquoise

Up next is my least favourite colour, Miami, not because it’s not a good polish but simply because I don’t do pink and this is an awful colour for my skin tone: I’m very pale. BUT it applies well and is a 2 coater. I expect most people will love this, it’s just not for me! Sorry I just couldn’t get the bottle shot to show the true colour, but on my nails it’s pretty accurate!

Finally is Malibu, a gorgeous.. well.. blue. I would like to describe it as cornflour but I think it’s slightly darker? I love, love, LOVE this colour. I would have to say it’s my favourite of the collection (closely followed by Rhossili) and I think it’s a must have for summer this year! So bright. Pigmentation is great, as is application.

Malibu Blue

Overall, I think this collection is great. The colours are bright and fun and there’s not really a polish I don’t like in relevance to this! The only issue I had was with Waikiki for coverage but all these polished dry super fast and so a third coat won’t take long at all. One thing I will say is that they seem slightly less matte than their previous Classic Matte Collection BUT they’e still matte, don’t get me wrong. If you’re not a fan of matte, just pot a top coat over and they’re still fantastic colours for summer.

I hope you enjoyed this! I enjoyed swatching them and I can’t wait to wear them this summer.

See you soon! 🙂

P.S. If you were wondering what top coat I used it’s Glisten & Glow’s HK Girl – Fast Drying & Super Shiny Top Coat! I absolutely love this product, it does exactly what is described! Make sure to visit her site and follow her on instagram for more of her products.

Burt’s Bees Essential Collection Review!

My cuticles are in need of repair. I’ve been using Sally Hansen’s Vitamin E Nail & Cuticle Oil, but it just doesn’t seem to be doing enough; they’re still dry and splitting. I decided to invest in Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream, and ended up buying the Essentials Collection.

Burt's Bees Essential Collection

I purchased this kit online at Amazon UK here for around £7.00 (the price varies depending on the seller.) It contains: Shea Butter Hand Repair Cream (50g), Beeswax Lip Balm with Vitamin  E & Peppermint and their infamous Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream (15g). You can also buy various sets and individual products on the Burt’s Bees UK website or US website. Here’s my quick review:

The Shea Butter Hand Repair Cream smells fantastic, although I would consider it a little overpowering, especially if you don’t like scented products. It contains Cocoa Butter and Sesame Oil but to me it smells a little of lavender? Maybe that’s just me… The consistency is a little bit on the thick side and the first time I used it, what I can only assume to be, Sesame Oil ran out with the cream. I also find that it sits on skin and doesn’t really soak in (I used the amount on my hand in the photo for both hands and would say it was still a little too much product – oops) . Saying that it does leave my hands feeling super soft! So this is a 50/50 product for me. I probably won’t be using it on a daily basis but as more of a weekly thing – after all it is sold as a repair cream rather than a moisturiser, so I’m assuming it’s meant to be more of an intense treatment.

Shea Butter Hand Repair Cream

Next up is the Beeswax Lip Balm. It definitely smells of peppermint – which I love! It’s so refreshing. It’s just a clear chapstick so leaves no colour or tint on the lips which I like. After applying this to my lips it actually tingled! and it left them feeling soft and moisturised after one application. There’s not much more to say about this product, I love it after one use and so I recommend it to everyone!

Beeswax Lip Balm

And finally we have the Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. This one will take a little time to see if it actually works for me and my cuticles but from the trial use? I love it. It’s smells great – like lemons as suggested. I love anything lemon-y – foods, drinks or smells so thats a big plus for me. Another thing I love about it, is that it doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or oily which is fab as after I apply cuticle oils I have to sit around and wait for it to fully soak in before I can continue with my day! Oil gets everywhere otherwise. I’ll keep you updated on this one and see if my cuticles improve but from first experience I love it! (Please excuse my cuticles and nails in the photo! As I said, they need some looking after!)
