June Nail Art Challenge: 06 – Fav Movie

Hello 🙂

So I don’t have a favourite movie, I’m too indecisive for that but I decided to do The Hobbit today for Califronails nail art challenge because I wanted to try out a new polish I picked up using my Boots points.

For this mani I used Barry M Gold Glitter, Black Multi Glitter (the one I wanted to try out) and their nail art pen in white, China Glaze Mingle With Cringle and a random silver striper, which I got in a set of 50 from eBay about 2 years ago! The Hobbit Nails The Hobbit Nails

The Barry M Black Multi Glitter wasn’t as great as I had hoped. In the bottle you can see the tiny little silver and holo glitters perfectly fine but on the nail its a little underwhelming. But I went ahead and used it anyway.

To create this look I used one coat of Black Multi Glitter and dabbed on the Gold Glitter, just over the tips of my nails. I wanted it to look like the piles of gold that Smaug lives in. I then used the nail art pen to write on the title and draw the silhouette of Sting on my thumb nail. To make it look it more like the title in the film I then used a thin nail art brush to paint over the white with Mingle with Cringle and I used the silver to go over Sting, I tried to make it look like it was glowing… I topped it all off with HK Girl topcoat and applied my favourite cuticle cream from Burt’s Bees. The Hobbit Nails The Hobbit Nails

I know it’s not the best nail art but I’m learning – slowly! What do you think and what’s your favourite film?

NOTD: Illamasqua and Nail Studs

Hello, just a quick one today!

This was actually yesterdays mani, it was pretty grim weather so I didn’t fancy wearing anything too light or bright on my nails. I used Illamasqua – Faux Pas for this. I got it on sale for £5 on their website a while ago – such a good bargain! I ended up buying three polishes for £15: 3 for the price of 1! Faux Pas is a blue-based deep purple and has a slight shimmer too but it’s barely visible to the eye, let alone the camera! I purchased the triangle studs form Cheeky’s store on Amazon for £1.33 and you can get them on their website too. I applied just ONE coat of Faux Pas, let it dry, then added one coat of topcoat. While it was still wet I applied a stud using tweezers and once the first coat had dried, applied a second coat of top coat. I use HK Girl topcoat from Glisten and Glow, which is super shiny.

June Nail Art Challenge: 04 – Disney

Hello again 🙂

Today I have the second category from Californails June Nail Art Challenge, which is Disney! I was originally going to do Tangled and have Rapunzel’s hair running across my nails, but I just couldn’t do and I didn’t have the time to faff to much as I’m still sitting exams for Uni! So.. I ended up doing Alice in Wonderland 🙂 I kept it simple and used a variety of polishes so I won’t list them all! The tools I used were just a dotting tool, a striper brush and Barry M’s Nail Art Pen in black. I apologise for it not being very neat, I rushed it a little bit so I could crack on with revision! The thumb nail, which I’m not showing being it went wrong, has a pocket watch on it.

Simple but I like them, what do you think? 🙂

See you soon

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Summer 2014 swatches and review!

Hello 🙂

I have some of the new Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Summer 2014 collection for you today! There’s 7 in total but being a student, unfortunately, I could only afford 4 of them. I picked up the ones I liked the most and they also happened to be the ones that looked similar to polishes from their older collections: Elderberry, Kiwi, Coconut and Damson. I love how the Gellies all have fruity names 🙂

Barry M Summer 2014 Gellies

First up I have Elderberry, which is a lovely cornflour blue colour. It’s a great formula – applies easy and dries fairly quickly. Photos show 2 coats, no topcoat.

I thought this colour looked similar to Blueberry, which I already owned so I’ve swatched this, using 2 coats, next to it on my ring and pinky fingers. Elderberry is more of a grey-blue so it’s not the same at all.

Barry M Elderberry Barry M ElderberryNext, we have Kiwi. This is a great green colour, it’s not the same as any colours in the Barry M collection, they haven’t don’t a true green before. It applies well, 2 coats shown with no top coat.

For those of you who think it may be similar to other colours in Barry M, and at first I thought so too, I’ve compared it to Greenberry (index finger) and Guava (ring finger) – both with 2 coats. As you can see they’re not the same or similar. Bottle shot shows Guava, Kiwi and Greenberry.

Coconut is a lovely pale cream/off white. I love this colour, it applies smooth and easy BUT possibly is a 3 coater because it’s a light colour but it dries pretty quickly so this isn’t really a problem for me.Barry M Coconut Barry M Coconut

I thought this might be similar to Lychee (ring and pinky finger) but it’s a lot paler. Barry M Coconut Barry M Coconut

Lastly, we have Damson, a beautiful cream blue. This is my favourite I think, it applies so well. If my pinky looks a bit patchy I think I forgot to apply a second coat! The rest of my fingers have 2 coats on, no topcoat.

Barry M Damson Barry M Damson

To me, this looks the same as Blue Grape until I did a comparison swatch. It’s shown on my ring and pinky fingers and turns out to be much more of a true royal blue. So no dupes here either 🙂Barry M Damson Barry M Damson

So there we are, as you can see, they’re definitely shiny, as promised and like the previously released formulas.

What do you think of them? You can find these in Boots and Superdrug now.

June Nail Art Challenge: 01 – Sky

Hello 🙂

I’ve finally decided to participate in a nail art challenge. I’m doing Californails June Nail Art Challenge, even though I’m only around until the 18th as I have to go on a 5 week mapping project for my dissertation. I think I might just do the rest of them before I go, as I’ll still be able to post them while I’m away.

01 is Sky and I decided to do a gradient with clouds, it turned out much better than I thought! I used Glisten & Glow stuck on blu base coat. Once dry, I applied 2 coats of Barry M’s Huckleberry and after this had dried fully I sponged on Elderberry and Blueberry, also Barry M. For the clouds I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White and a dotting tool. I dabbed the clouds with a sponge while they were still wet so they weren’t opaque. I topped it all off with Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat and then decided I wanted it matte so followed this with No 7 Nail Effects – Matte. This is the finished look, I hope you like it!

Hope you like it 🙂 Come back soon!
