Gladiolus Nails for August Nail Art Challange

Hello 🙂

I have day 08 for the August Nail Art Challenge for you today. It’s Gladilous. I tried to do a close up of the flower but failed miserably so went for a view from afar… And a gradient based on this flower picture which I found here

For this mani I used all Barry M products: Coconut, Prickly Pear and Plum. I topped it all off with my new China Glaze Fairy Dust which I absolutely LOVE.

So Susan May 2014 Lacquerlove Subscription swatches and review

Hello 🙂

Today I have 2 things for you. First is the So Susan May 2014 Lacquerlove Subscription box, a UK nail polish subscription box, which contains 4 nail polishes (from left to right in the image below) in Bubblegum, Light Lawn, Watermelon and Strobe Light. They come in this fab box, which I would show you separately but my postman smushed mine trying to get it through the letter box (Sad face). Maybe next time. The nail polishes are 4-free. For those of you who don’t know (I didn’t) this means it DOESN’T contain DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde or Formaldehyde Resin. The subscription is *monthly* and costs £14.95 excluding postage, if you’re new they normally give you an offer too. You also get a ‘free’ gift – this month it was a Lip Blush (unfortunately in a colour I wouldn’t wear). I used to subscribe to this, and have quite a few of their polishes already which I really like (I may show you in the future). I only stopped my subscription because I couldn’t afford it but now I can again, which makes me happy 🙂

Now to the swatches!

The first colour is Bubblegum which surprised me by being a textured polish! I actually really like this colour and I’m a big fan of textured nails. It dried super quick and only took 2 coats, it doesn’t need a topcoat either. The last picture shows the true colour, it was quite hard to capture, but it’s a lovely bright bubblegum pink (I think I’m warming to pink!). It has a great texture too, not too chunky.

Light Lawn is a mint green, it’s actually pretty similar to NYC Mint Macaroon which I recently swatched here.  It took 3 coats to get completely smooth and opaque but it dries super quick, so no problems really. Picture shows 3 coats no topcoat.

So Susan Light Lawn So Susan Light LawnNext up is Watermelon which is a bright pink toned red. It applies opaque in 2 coats, you could probably get away with 1 it’s that pigmented. It does stain the nails and skin a little, so be careful and wear a base coat. It leans a little more towards pink in real life.

So Susan Watermelon So Susan WatermelonThe last polish swatch I have today is the glitter polish – Strobe Lights. It consists of a clear base filled with large pink, purple and navy blue hexes and small purple hexes. There’s no need to fish for the glitter pieces which is always great. Photos show 1 coat.

The second thing I have for you today is for @californails August Nail Art Challenge. I didn’t blog about the first one, because I didn’t do a very good job. So this is Day 04 – ikat. I used Light Lawn, Watermelon and Barry M Nail Art pens in black and white 🙂

I actually really like this design and it didn’t take long at all.

Hope you enjoyed today’s post! Hope it wasn’t too long..

Ice Cream nail art – mint choc chip.

Hello 🙂

Just another quick post for you today. I painted these nails a few days ago but didn’t get to upload them, so I’ll do it now while I’m visiting home!

I used my new NYC – Mint Macaroon for this mani. Which is great, it applies smooth and opaque in just 2 coats. Picture shows this, with no top coat. I then added chocolate chips using So Susan in Espresso and for my thumb nail I painted on the cone using Barry M in Lychee over a base of NYC Pinstripe White and stamped on the cross-cross effect. This is my first attempt at stamping, the plates aren’t very good quality as they came in a bumper nail art set I picked up for cheap. BUT it has made me want to invest in some decent plates! (One day). Anyway, I then dribbled one some melting choc chip ice cream 🙂 and obviously mattified it.

I apologise for the awkward hand poses. My fingers just don’t want to bend this way!
I’ve also noticed my cuticles have gotten really dry again 😦 despite using my Bliss Kiss Pure Nail Oil AND my Burt’s Bees lemon cuticle butter which makes me think it’s to do with the amount of water I’m (not) drinking. I’ve been really bad recently – I just improve this to make nails better!

Hope you like my quick nail art mani 🙂
What’s your favourite flavour ice cream? I’d love to know.
