Sally Nails - The Nightmare Before Christmas Nails

Happy Halloween!

Hello and Happy Halloween! 🙂

Now, I’m not a huge lover of Halloween normally but this year I did a few manis to ‘celebrate’. I have the 3 halloween specific nails I did during October and the one I wore with my Halloween outfit from last night.

First up, 2 that come hand in hand, Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Jack Skellington Nails - The Nightmare Before Christmas Nails Sally Nails - The Nightmare Before Christmas NailsFor Jack Skellington I used Barry M Matte Espresso as the base and used white acrylic for the design. For Sally I used a whole bunch of Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine polishes, mostly from their newest A/W collection (which I’ve swatched for you here): Cardamom, Mustard, Chilli, Rose Hip, Huckleberry and Elderberry. I used acrylic paints for the detailing and design.

The next design was inspired by Dexter, which I’m currently binge watching with my boyfriend using Netflix. If you haven’t seen it yet I highly suggest you do. It’s all about a blood splatter analysts that works for Miami Metro Police.. sounds dull? He’s also a serial killer!

Dexter NailsAs you can see, I used Barry M again for this one, in Coconut. I used acrylic paints for the rest and the ‘splatter technique’ which I showed you in my latest Untried series.

My last design isn’t anything Halloween related, other than it was part of my costume this year, but I really wanted to share it in this post regardless.. I went as Alice from Alice in Wonderland! I love the books and films and my nails had to match the outfit.

Alice in Wonderland Nails

The nail polishes used were Barry M Huckleberry, Matt White and Gold foil effect. The black and red detailing is acrylic paints. I finished it all off using a matte topcoat. I absolutely love this nail art and I never want to take it off! But if I want to continue blogging and posting to my instagram I’ll sadly have to.

I’m sorry if you get fed up of me using Barry M all the time but at only £2.99-£3.99 for their polishes they’re so affordable and as I’m a student this is all I can really stretch to. Also, a lot of the time Boots and Superdrug have 3 for 2 or some sort of offer on them which means that around 70% of my nail polishes are Barry M!

I hope you enjoyed these Halloween manicures. I really enjoyed painting them and wearing them this month! It’ll be time for christmas manis before you know it! 😉

I’ll definitely try and post the Untired I missed this week the Monday coming but I’m incredibly busy with Uni at the moment so I apologise If I’m not blogging on a regular basis!

Rimmel 60 Seconds Review

Hello 🙂

I used to buy Rimmel polishes a lot when I was younger but I guess I just moved on to Barry M as they had more options, but I recently received 2 polishes from their ’60 seconds’ range for my birthday from some of my friends, so I thought I’d give them another shot. Now this range claims to be ‘One-coat nail polishes’ as well as drying in ‘less than 60 seconds’.. We’ll see.I have 819 Green With Envy and 713 Little Bo Peep to share with you today.

Rimmel Green With Envy Rimmel Green With Envy

Green With Envy is a gorgeous shimmery teal. I have to say this is 100% NOT a one-coater, as claimed, but took 3 coats to get the coverage shown above. Drying time, however, was pretty quick but I’m not convinced it’s less than 1 minute! Saying that though, this is colour is stunning so I can’t complain!

Kimmel Little Bo Peep Kimmel Little Bo Peep

Little Bo Peep is a lovely soft, pale grey. I feel like this might need a white undie..The swatch shoes 3 coats and as you can see there still isn’t complete coverage but it is such a nice colour. I think it’s always difficult with pale colours to get them opaque – maybe a coat of white will help with this. It, again, does seem to dry super fast.

What I also love about these polishes is the ‘Xpress Flat Brush’ (you can see the diagram on the Envy swatch) which does actually make application easier and quicker because the brush is flatter and wider and much easier to control I think, especially around the cuticle area as my nails are quite small.

I think I may invest in a few more colours from Rimmel in the future just to see how they’re other colours fair out.

Barry M Foil Effect Nail Paints

Hello 🙂

Today I have both of the Barry M Foil Effect Nail Paints. They’re not new to the shops but are new to me… well relatively. I’ve had these lined up to post about for a while but am only now getting round to it! There are just two colours – gold and silver.

Barry M Gold Foil Effect Barry M Gold Foil Effect

The gold is okay.. it doesn’t wow me! I definitely own better golds.. but I guess it’s okay for £3.99! It applies well.. this is two coats and you could get away with one.. but it does have a tendency to be streaky. Shown without topcoat.

Barry M Silver Foil Effect Barry M Silver Foil Effect

The silver is better 🙂 I think it has more of a metallic feel, although it shows imperfections easier, I’m sure this can be smoothed out though with topcoat and being careful! This is two coats, again it’s opaque in one but needs two to hide the streaky-ness. Although, the silver isn’t as streaky as the gold. This happens to be the only silver I own, that isn’t glitter, so will probably get more use than the gold 🙂

If you don’t own a gold or silver I would say these are definitely worth a buy at only £3.99 each and Boots and Superdrug often having an offer on Barry M polishes.

Barry M Autumn Gelly Swatches

Barry M Autumn Gelly Hi-Shine Swatches

Hello 🙂

So I had a change of heart on the post I was meant to put up last night. I had been on a field trip for 2 days for my uni course and so by the time I got back from that it was pretty late and I was quite tired so I didn’t get round to posting it. But I decided to make up for it today because I finally got round to being able to swatch the new Barry M Autumn Gellies! I got the whole set of 6 for my birthday from my boyfriend (love him for fuelling my addiction!) but since then I’ve either been really ill or really busy.. but today was the day! I’ve used them in a mani before but I hadn’t swatched them yet.. So here they are..

Barry M Autumn Gelly Swatches

All swatches show 2 coats with NO topcoat, unless stated otherwise.

Barry M ChaiBarry M Chai

Chai is a lovely mid grey. The formula for this is fantastic, as it is with all of them. I feel like it might be a new and improved one compared to the older Gellies? It was opaque in 2 coats and dried super quick too.

Barry M Cardamom Barry M Cardamom

Cardamom is what I want to describe as a dark sage? I’m not sure how else to do say it! I love this colour. I think it’s really appropriate for autumn. Same formula as Chai.

Barry M Mustard Barry M Mustard

Mustard is a gorgeous colour, as described by it’s name it’s a mustard yellow! Now.. my skin tone does NOT like yellows.. at all. BUT this may be the one for me! What do you guys think? Wearing yellow normally makes my skin look a funny colour but I think I look okay with this one on..? This one was a 3 coater, but I think if you’re not planning to take close up pictures of your nails you can get away with 2 🙂

Barry M PaprikaBarry M PaprikaPaprika is a reddy/chestnut brown or the colour of paprika ;). On my nails it looks more of a red, but that might be to do with the lighting or my skin tone.. the bottle shot is more true to colour. I’m not sure about this one against my skin but I’ll definitely use it for nail art. Same formula as Chai and Cardamom.

Barry M Chilli Barry M Chilli

Chilli is a gorgeous deep red that has a touch of brown colouring to it? Red isn’t normally a good colour for me but again, I think this one kind of goes with my tone 🙂 Such a lovely warm red for autumn/winter! Same formula as all the others.

Barry M Cocoa Barry M Cocoa

Cocoa is a deep rich brown that looks like chocolate. I think it has the perfect touch of red tones to not make it look like a disgusting dirty brown on my nails! Formula is great, first coat looks a bit patchy but it evens out extremely well with the second coat!

This whole collection is a winner for me. The polishes actually go pretty well with my skin tone, which is hard! I definitely think the formula has slightly improved. All of them can be worn as 2 coaters, 2 thin coats too! and they dry super quickly. The colours are great for both autumn and winter and the names are so fitting! I like the spice theme. I will definitely be using these throughout the colder months and Mustard will be making a few appearances as it’s the only yellow I can get away with wearing.

Hope you like the swatches… do you guys think my photos are improving??

Nail Art September Round Up

Hello 🙂

Second post of the day! Sorry I’m trying to catch up! This is just a brief post to show all my blog followers my round up of my September Nail Art Challenge, which I posted on my Instagram. I didn’t do individual posts for these as I didn’t have time. I won’t go into detail but I 99% of the polishes I used were Barry M! I skipped Starbucks because I didn’t have time for that one and I wasn’t fussed on the theme.
