Okay, I’m going to start by apologising for the terrible lighting in these… okay it might not be terrible but it’s not great either! The room I usually use for swatches and such is my bedroom, which is currently out of bounds due to work being done that involves taking down part of the wall due to a leak… Leaving my boyfriend and myself to live in our living room/kitchen for possibly 2 weeks or more! I can do work in the living room at the table but the lighting is terrible. It’s a dark room because it’s at the back of the house and trees block any sunlight that might actually reach it… So, I’m left with crappy yellow-toned downlighters which create horrible shadows and my LED white light lamp which kind of saves the day – to an extent!
Sorry, enough about that… Makeup Revolution has released ‘dupes’ for the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits, called the Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kits (a bit of a mouthful!) and although I don’t own any of Kylie’s products for comparison, I thought I’d pick up some the kits for a stand-alone review.
I picked up 4 shades, in Royal, Echelon, Noble and Glory, the 4 other colours just weren’t for me. They come in matte black boxes that have a rose gold band across and inside you have the matte liquid lipstick and a matching lipliner.
Noble – lovely warm nude shade.
Echelon – a mauve toned nude
Royal – a deep aubergine purple.
Glory – beautiful warm, deep brown.
While all of these colours are stunning, I have a few issues with the formula. Firstly, they didnt seem to ever dry fully… Yes, they went matte but they remained sticky even after seemingly having dried – which is really annoying because then when you pat your lips together it sticks to itself and comes off. I found that the best formula was in Glory, it applied and dried alot better. DO NOT BUY ROYAL! That is unless you want to apply what feels like tar to your lips. It’s so f*cking sticky. It took me about 10 minutes, or more!, to remove and it took about 5 layers of skin off in the process… Oh and it stained my lips. Secondly, I found was that the lipliners were a bit TOO soft and creamy, after having applied them to my lips just once they needed sharpening, and one of them broke completely when I had only just touched it to my skin. Also, they have no smell. This is a personal preference, I just like them to smell nice!
Overall verdict? It’s such a shame about the formula on these. I probably wont be wearing any of them very often, if at all – maybe I can try Glory one more time..
If you still really want to buy these you can get them on the Tam Beauty website or in Superdrug.
