2017: A Year In Review

Here I am on Christmas Eve writing my last blog post of 2017, which happens to be my 280th post overall, and reflecting on this small part of my life. I feel like Tipped Off Nails has come so far since I started back in 2014 and it’s particularly grown this year. My views have hit 40K+, an increase of 1065% (!) since my first year, and I now have 250+ followers on here. My monthly views are now almost as high as my first full year of blogging! 2017 has not been an easy year for me, as some of you may know, so it’s good to see improvements here on my little blogging project.

Nails and beauty are a hobby of mine and I love to find new products I can play with regardless of stats. I’ve really branched out into the makeup side of my blog this year, and I’ve definitely enjoyed mixing it up. You guys have too – my most popular posts are all makeup products!

I’ve also had the privilege of reviewing lots of items for different brands this year. Thank you to all those that sent me products to try out! I love discovering new brands too and I feel like I’ve witnessed a mini-explosion of new indie polish makers this year. I’ve bought many of their polishes (probably too many…) and I think it’s great to support small companies, especially if they’ve just started up. You can get some amazing polishes from them too, that definitely can’t be found on the high-street. The best place to find them is Instagram!

Talking of Instagram, growth on there is a different story these days, what with the algorithm being shit but I still love to share my content even if my followers don’t always get to see it! @tippedoffnails managed to reach 2.5K+, and then quickly shrank back to below 2K after removing a crap-ton of ghost followers. But I’m almost at 2K again!

Despite its issues, I love the Instagram community, and even though I’ve felt defeated and dejected many times this year, I don’t think I could quit it. There’s so much love and support from everyone on there. I’ve been super lucky and not received any hate from anyone, and all of my Insta-pals really helped me through the tough time I’ve had since getting diagnosed with cancer back in September 2016. I’m now almost a year cancer-free!  You were all there for me when I needed support and a pick-me-up (and still are!), and I can’t thank you enough for that!

I also want to thank everyone who took part in my #cancerawarenesscollab, all 125 of you! I was overwhelmed by the response it had. The designs you all created were beautiful and for such a brilliant cause. Here they all are again if you missed it:dfcf132420b78b32c685c1257718bd67

In fact, it was such a big hit that it made it into my 2017bestnine – along with your other favourites! I’m a little confused about the nude/beige swatch having made it though… not my favourite, for sure. tippedoffnails.jpg

Even though, I feel, I’ve come leaps and bounds since starting this little blog 3 years ago (just check out my first ever swatch post…), I’m still trying to improve on the quality of my content every time I share something with you. If there is anything at all you can suggest to help me with this, please let me know. I’ve set up a Sarahah where you can leave anonymous feedback if you would like – it would help me out a lot!

In 2018 I’m hoping to have more time for myself. I will have finished my Masters degree by the end of January and I’ll be working a 9-5 (or 10-6…) job so I’ll have my evenings and weekends free for the first time in a long time! This will ultimately mean I can spend a bit more time on my blog, sharing my content across platforms and interacting with others; more so than I’ve been able to in 2017. It’s been a very, very busy year!

Saying that I will be taking a break from blogging until after I have handed in my Thesis in January, which I hope you will all understand! I’m aiming to be back by the end of next month, but if I decide to take a little bit longer, then it will be no later than February. I hope you’re all having a magical Christmas and I wish you all a Happy New Year!

I hope I’ve covered everything! See you in 2018!

  1. Those stats are looking great 😀 It’s always a great feeling knowing people are genuinely interested in your content. IG has been sucking for me lately, my page isn’t growing the it used to, but like you said I still wanna keep on posting for those who are kind enough to follow along my posts ❤ And good luck with your thesis ❤
