A while ago, CarbonCoco contacted me to ask if I wanted to try out their Ultimate Carbon Kit. I was excited to be offered this opportunity, as I’ve got weak enamel but I really wanted to whiten my teeth! I struggle to find anything that works without damaging them. Carbon Coco sounds like the perfect thing to try, as according to them, their products “naturally whitens teeth, polishes teeth, strengthens enamel and detoxifies your mouth without any chemicals and added nasties“. Added bonus – all their products are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free!
The Ultimate Carbon Kit contains Activated Charcoal Tooth Polish, Activated Charcoal Toothpaste and a Bamboo Bristle Toothbrush, all for ~£23.50 currently! It might seem like a lot but the Tooth Polish will last a long time!
The Activated Charcoal Tooth Polish is made of finely milled Organic Coconut Activated Charcoal with a hint of Bentonite Clay and Lemon Myrtle. This special formula is proven to be very gentle yet effective in detoxifying the mouth and removing stains! It has zero taste and smell. To use you simply wet your toothbrush, dip it in the powder and then brush your teeth in gentle circles for 2-3 minutes. It’s suggested you rinse and brush your teeth with the toothpaste after. It’s also advised that you use this before bed, to give time for any residue to dislodge overnight. Results are meant to be seen in 7-14 days! The Activated Charcoal Toothpaste doesn’t have fluoride and as the name suggests contains activated charcoal! The toothpaste is black, but don’t worry, it turns into white foam while brushing, and it has a minty taste. This toothpaste is designed to protect your teeth from further staining throughout the day. Brush with this toothpaste after using the tooth polish at night and in place of your regular toothpaste during the day. It’s also suggested that you use this instead of your regular brand after the 14-day treatment to maintain your results.I also like the Bamboo Bristled Toothbrush that comes with this set, but what I would have loved more if the handle was also bamboo so it was more environmentally-friendly!
So, I used the toothpaste in both the morning and evening, with the charcoal powder in the evening as suggested, every day from the 1st of March for the entire month… but did I see the results I was looking for? Sadly not. You can see from my results (below – sorry for the hideous photos) that my teeth didn’t get any whiter! I think they might have gotten more yellow!? Maybe that was the lighting… I don’t know whether it’s just my teeth because I know people (in real life) that this has worked for! As I said, I have weak enamel and maybe I just don’t have any left, which is why my teeth are naturally slightly yellow (and sensitive).
I can’t say I didn’t like this product though, the powder wasn’t foul tasting like I thought, and the toothpaste was also great. I do suggest investing in a tongue scraper/brush though as the charcoal leaves your tongue black! Luckily I already had one. I also normally use a sensitive toothpaste but didn’t see any increased sensitivity while using these products which is another plus. Maybe I just need to persevere and see if I get better results in the long-term…
